In Mangu town, Plateau state, bloodshed and the destruction of homes have persisted unabated despite the government’s implementation of a 24-hour curfew.
As reported by MUK TV, it would be recalled that Governor Celeb Mutfwang instated the curfew in response to fresh killings recorded in the area on Tuesday.
However, the eruption of violence persisted, with gunmen assaulting various communities, indiscriminately firing at residents.
Reportedly, the assailants targeted and set ablaze multiple houses, including the Sunnah Islamiya School situated along the prominent Gindiri Road.
Suleiman Muhammad, a resident of Mangu, shared, “At around 9:30 am this morning, gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons came and started shooting sporadically. They burnt a lot of houses, including the Sunnah Islamiya school. Some persons were killed. They have overwhelmed the security personnel currently in Mangu. We are completely surrounded by the gunmen.”
He continued, “They burnt down our mosques and houses in Anguwan Femawa, Anguwan Hayi, Anguwan Kuwata, and Anguwan Maijirgi – all in ward 2 of Mangu.”
Despite seeking a response from Captain Oya James, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, which is tasked with maintaining peace in the area, there has been no reply to inquiries by our correspondent.
