Professor ACB Agbazuere, former Chief of Staff and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2023 General Election, has been apprehended by the Abia State Police Command.
The arrest, according to reports, took place as Agbazuere prepared to respond to an invitation from the Panel on Recovery of Government Properties, established by Governor Alex Otti’s administration in Abia State.
Currently held at the CP’s Office on Bende Road, Umuahia, Agbazuere’s arrest comes amid a legal battle where he has filed a suit against alleged harassment and intimidation by the recovery panel regarding an official vehicle he reportedly took home after his public service.
MUK TV reports that the controversy centers around a Toyota Prado SUV, a parting gift from former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, which Agbazuere claims is rightfully his.
And, rightly so, in an official letter sighted by this medium, which was dated April 21, 2022, and emanated from the office of the Permanent Secretary, Abia State Government House, Odoemela A.I., the said vehicle was graciously bequeathed to Agbazuere by Ikpeazu.
This development adds to the ongoing scrutiny of officials and appointees from the previous PDP-led government in Abia State, raising questions about the Recovery Panel’s actions and accusations of political vendetta against Okezie’s appointees.
The drama echoes recent events where the panel recovered a Toyota Commuter Bus from Philip Ntoh, the former Provost of the Abia State College of Education, Arochukwu, further intensifying the political saga in the state.
