The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), disclosed that in 2023, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) utilized almost N1 billion for Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) of principal officers frequently shuttling between Lagos and Abuja.
During an interview on Channels Politics Today, Keyamo emphasized the irrevocable decision to relocate the FAAN corporate headquarters from Abuja to Lagos.
He highlighted that over 100 FAAN staff operated from Lagos, with only a few directors stationed in Abuja.
The Minister clarified that an organization’s headquarters was where “the decision-makers sit,” asserting that “they are all in Lagos, they are not really in Abuja.”
Keyamo revealed that FAAN leaders had approached him, expressing the challenges they faced, with some directors in Abuja and support staff commuting daily between Lagos and Abuja.
However, on the subsequent day, Keyamo clarified via his Twitter handle that he had not been briefed on the specific amount spent by FAAN in 2023 for DTA, which amounted to N493,678,620.37, excluding air tickets that totaled N451,058,950.09.
This brought the total close to N1 billion, as FAAN insisted on naming Abuja as the headquarters despite inadequate office space.
