A baby, allegedly sold for N800,000 by a maid, in startling development, has been discovered in a market in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.
#Dannysleek, an X user, initially sounded the alarm in now-deleted tweets on Saturday, revealing that a maid hired through an agency had absconded with the infant.
The maid, identified as Ruth Okezie from Anambra State, reportedly vanished with the baby from the Shomolu residence around 2 am on Saturday.
Following the viral social media report, the maid was located in Ikorodu, admitting to selling the baby for N800,000.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared on his X handle on Monday morning that the police rescued the abandoned baby in Alade Market, Shomolu, thanks to an intense manhunt.
He stated, “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. The baby was promptly rescued by the police.
“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.
“Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
