The Supreme Court has affirmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Nigeria’s duly elected president, bringing to an end legal fireworks from opposition Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labor Party (LP), challenging his victory at the February 25 presidential polls.

The two opposition parties’ presidential candidates had argued that Tinubu’s victory at the polls was marred by irregularities.

But in a verdict delivered by the apex court’s lead judge, Justice John Okoro, the court ruled that the appeal filed by Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lacked merit.

“There is no merit in this appeal, and it is hereby dismissed,” Supreme Court judge John Okoro said.

Atiku had sought to overturn the judgment of the presidential election petition tribunal, which affirmed Tinubu’s election as president.
