A 53-year-old internally displaced person (IDP) named Usman Tela Ahmadu, residing in Samunaka, Yola North Local Government Area, has been apprehended for sexually abusing a mentally challenged minor.
Daily Trust reports that Ahmadu, who hails from Maiduguri in Borno State, was reportedly receiving gifts and undue support from locals in the area where he committed the crime.
Confessing the act, the suspect admitted to sexually assaulting the mentally challenged girl on four separate occasions since the beginning of 2021.
Expressing concern about the incident, Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola urged parents and guardians to ensure their wards have proper supervision to prevent interactions with criminally-minded individuals.
CP Babatola emphasized that there is no place for criminals exhibiting such behavior in Adamawa State and highlighted the implementation of strategies aimed at curbing gender-based violence and other criminal activities during the current period.
