In a challenging pre-AFCON friendly clash at the Bani Yas Stadium, Abu Dhabi, the Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat against the Syli National of Guinea on Monday.

The Jose Peseiro-led side, notably missing key players like Victor Osimhen and Francis Uzoho, conceded an early goal in the 14th minute, setting a tense tone for the match.

A golden opportunity to level the score emerged as Simon Moses stepped up for a penalty in the 20th minute, only to be thwarted by the Guinea goalkeeper.

Despite efforts to regroup, the Guineans extended their lead in the 64th minute, denting the Super Eagles’ hopes further.

Peseiro made tactical substitutions, shuffling the lineup, with changes including Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Frank Onyeka taking the field.

Late attempts to overturn the scoreline in the 83rd minute saw Ahmed Musa, Joe Aribo, and Ademola Lookman stepping in, but Guinea maintained their dominance, securing a significant victory just before the AFCON tournament.

As the Super Eagles gear up for the AFCON, their last preparatory match ended in disappointment. The team is now set to return to Lagos on Tuesday before heading to Cote D’Ivoire for the main event.
