26-year-old Angrej Singh from India was apprehended for allegedly dressing up as a woman to write an exam on behalf of his girlfriend, Paramjeet Kaur, 34.
Reportedly, Singh was nabbed during a recruitment exam conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Punjab’s Faridkot district.
Officials discovered the ruse when Singh’s biometric details didn’t match those of the genuine candidate.
The incident happened on January 7 at DAV Public School in Kotkapura during an entrance exam for the post of a female multipurpose health worker.
According to Kotkapura Station House Officer, Manoj Kumar, Singh entered the exam hall disguised in traditional women’s attire with shaved facial hair, makeup, and his photo cleverly placed over Kaur’s on the application form.
Kumar stated, “On January 7 we sent him home as we had got nothing in writing from the university but on January 8, we got a complaint from Dr Deepak Bhatti, registrar of BFUHS, and thus lodged an FIR under IPC section 419 (impersonation) against Angrez Singh.
“We will include Kaur too as a co-accused in this case as without her permission, he could not have sat in the exam.”
While Angrez Singh was arrested and subsequently granted bail, an investigation into the fake identity cards is pending, awaiting more details from the university.
Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police, Harjeet Singh, revealed that Singh managed to enter the examination hall, but suspicions arose when the picture on the application form didn’t align with the candidate present.”
“Later, biometrics were done and they didn’t match with the ones kept in the records. It was found that a boy named Angrez Singh had impersonated Kaur. He had even got a fake Aadhaar card, voter card and I card made in the name of Paramjeet Kaur,” explained the SSP.
Further investigation revealed that Kaur had previously failed the exam, and despite Singh claiming to be a relative, police inquiries concluded that they were not related.
