The Edo State House of Assembly has directed the state Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to establish a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations leveled against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

The assembly accuses the deputy governor of misconduct and unauthorized disclosure of government information.

The panel is mandated to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and provide necessary recommendations.

Vanguard reported that the Speaker, RT Hon Blessing Agbebaku, presided over the brief sitting.

Earlier this month, the Edo State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Shaibu, alleging constitutional violations.

However, Shaibu denies receiving any impeachment notice from the assembly, citing his absence from the state since March 3.

In a letter to the Speaker dated March 12, 2024, titled “RE: Service of Impeachment Notice,” Shaibu’s Personal Assistant, Charles Olubayo, refutes the claim of being served with any letter.

Supporters of Shaibu argue that he is being persecuted due to his gubernatorial aspirations, as he emerged as a candidate in a parallel primary election held on February 22, 2024.
