There was a mild drama at the Federal High Court in Abuja as human rights activist Omoyele Sowore openly mocked former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in a strong exchange that has since gone viral.
Sowore, known for his long-running battles with authorities, confronted Malami during court proceedings, accusing him of now facing the same justice system he once defended while in power.
“You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari at that time, you were bragging. We warned you then that there is failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you,” Sowore said.
He added, “There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now.”
In a symbolic gesture that stunned onlookers, Sowore attempted to hand Malami what he described as a “revolutionary cap,” reinforcing his criticism of the system.
“I want to give you my cap. This is a revolutionary cap,” he said.
Despite the sharp remarks, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s composure amid the situation.
“At least I’m glad that you are strong.”
The activist insisted that the flaws in Nigeria’s justice system spare no one, not even those who once held power.
“We are not all on the same side… even the oppressors are oppressing you now,” he said.
Sowore further doubled down on his stance against the political establishment.
“As far as the Nigeria project is concerned, no matter how powerful you people are, we will never support you. We are resilient till tomorrow,” he said.
Responding briefly, Malami maintained that he remains steady and committed to due process.
“I can never be down. Well, I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong,” he said.
The courtroom clash has sparked fresh debate over Nigeria’s justice system, with many observers describing the moment as a dramatic reflection of shifting political fortunes.
