General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will not be stripped of her status as an ordained pastor, stressing that her ordination predated her husband’s presidential bid and complied fully with church guidelines.
Speaking during the RCCG monthly Holy Ghost Service, Adeboye clarified that Mrs Tinubu’s ordination as an Assistant Pastor took place more than a decade ago, long before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu indicated any interest in contesting for Nigeria’s highest office. He explained that the First Lady followed the full RCCG process, undergoing screening and training like thousands of other candidates who were ordained at the time.
Adeboye emphasised that Oluremi Tinubu has not violated any of the church’s doctrines, regulations or moral standards that could warrant disciplinary action or removal from office. He insisted that the church is not an appendage of any political party and would therefore not bow to external pressure or public agitation calling for her to be stripped of her pastoral title.
The cleric’s comments come amid renewed debate among some Nigerians over the appropriateness of the First Lady retaining a prominent pastoral role in RCCG while her husband leads a secular government. Adeboye’s categorical stance signals that, as far as the church leadership is concerned, Oluremi Tinubu’s pastoral status remains valid and secure within the denomination.
