A support group of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a serious appeal to supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as Obidients, urging them to remain “cordial and friendly” amid his expected defection to the party.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, the group called for mutual respect, reminding incoming supporters that it had long existed within the political platform.

“Dear Obidients, remember we’re here before you. Please be cordial and friendly. Do not bully us. Regards,” the post reads.

The message comes as political tensions rise ahead of Obi’s anticipated move, with earlier posts from the group referencing internal crises that have plagued opposition parties, including factions linked to leadership disputes in both the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The development follows reports that Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are set to join the NDC as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso has since confirmed that he has begun “wide-ranging consultations” regarding his next political move, especially in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling on the ADC leadership crisis.

Obi, on his part, has already confirmed plans to exit the ADC, citing internal divisions, legal battles, and a toxic political atmosphere within the party.

Despite growing speculation, Kwankwaso has downplayed reports of any firm political alliance, insisting he has neither declared for the presidency nor endorsed any aspirant.

The unfolding developments highlight a rapidly shifting opposition landscape, as key political figures search for stable platforms amid persistent internal crises.

The NDC, which boasts prominent figures like former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, is positioning itself as a reform-driven alternative, even as it braces for a potential influx of new political heavyweights and their supporters.
