Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has sensationally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), barely days after losing the party’s governorship primary in Nasarawa State to Senator Aliyu Wadada.

The former police boss formally submitted his resignation letter on Monday to executives of the APC in Makama Ward, Lafia, citing alleged irregularities and lack of internal democracy within the ruling party.

In his resignation letter, Adamu said recent happenings within the APC, especially the conduct of the governorship primaries in Nasarawa State, made it impossible for him to continue his political journey under the party’s platform.

“This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa State have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party,” he stated.

The former IGP accused the party of abandoning core democratic principles such as fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for members and aspirants.

“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members guide the affairs of any democratic political party.

“Unfortunately the event surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state.”

Adamu further disclosed that his decision followed extensive consultations with his political allies, supporters, and family members, adding that he would now pursue his political ambition elsewhere.

Despite his grievances, the former police chief expressed appreciation to APC members at the ward, local government, and state levels for the support and cooperation he enjoyed during his time in the party..
