Popular Yoruba gospel singer, Yinka Alaseyori, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, insisting that prayers, not blame games, are needed to secure the victims’ release.
Speaking in a viral video that surfaced online on Monday, the gospel minister warned Nigerians against allowing politicians to manipulate public emotions over the tragic incident.
“So many people are saying the prayers they are praying are not working. But believe me, the prayers are working. Don’t let anybody use you for any political whatever,” Ms Alaseyori said.
The singer maintained that the President, Vice President and security agencies were actively working behind the scenes to rescue the abducted schoolchildren and staff.
“You cannot say that the president and vice president are not doing what they are supposed to do. They are working. Even the security personnel can be close to the location to rescue the abducted schoolchildren and be blinded by charms. That is the place of prayer.”
Ms Alaseyori further urged Nigerians to unite in prayer for the country instead of turning the tragedy into political warfare.
“Don’t let anybody control you. Don’t let anybody use you for anything. But right now, let’s pray for Nigeria. All we have to do is to pray for our country. Every individual needs to pray for these children. We all need prayers. You can’t blame one man that the lord placed in a position.”
The abduction, which occurred in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has continued to trigger outrage across the country.
About 46 pupils and staff members have remained in captivity since May 15, while one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded after the kidnappers demanded ransom.
The incident has intensified nationwide concerns over insecurity and renewed calls for urgent action to protect schools and vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
