Fear gripped residents of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, late on Tuesday after suspected gunmen launched a daring assault on the Nigeria Immigration Service office, overpowering officers and making away with firearms.
The attack reportedly occurred around 10:00 p.m. at the facility situated along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, close to an NNPC filling station, in an operation that sent shockwaves through the area.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants stormed the premises while activities were still ongoing around the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, taking advantage of the late-hour movement and subdued security presence.
During the violent raid, immigration officers on duty were reportedly overwhelmed and dispossessed of their weapons.
However, the exact number of rifles stolen has yet to be confirmed as authorities continue to assess the damage.
After executing the operation, the gunmen allegedly vanished into the night without resistance.
Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet received official briefing on the attack.
“I have not been informed about this incident yet. I will share updates as soon as I get more information,” said the police spokesman.
