The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 13, Godwin Iguh-Eze, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the death of 26-year-old bricklayer, Ndudi Mmadudilim, who allegedly died while in the custody of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Anambra State.

The directive followed the AIG’s inspection visit to the RRS facility in Akwuzu, where concerns were raised over the circumstances surrounding Mmadudilim’s arrest, detention, and reported death in 2024.

According to reports, the deceased, an indigene of Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, was rearrested by RRS operatives shortly after securing bail in a criminal matter. His family reportedly spent nearly two years searching for information about his whereabouts.

During the visit, the AIG directed the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. A review of case files reportedly revealed that Mmadudilim had died while in custody, a development his family said was never communicated to them.

The AIG expressed concern over the handling of the case and vowed that anyone found responsible for misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action.

The police hierarchy has also ordered a broader review of operations at the RRS facility amid allegations of unlawful detention and other forms of misconduct.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has called for justice and demanded full disclosure regarding the circumstances of his death and the location of his remains.
