The Enugu State Government has dismissed a viral social media post alleging an imminent attack on the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), describing the claim as false and aimed at creating fear among residents.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government said the rumour was the handiwork of criminal elements seeking to undermine ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
The government noted that similar false alarms had been circulated in the past and were later proven untrue, with those responsible identified and prosecuted. It also revealed that security agencies are working to track down those behind the latest misinformation.
Residents, students, and members of the university community were urged to remain calm and continue their normal activities, as the state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through strengthened security measures.
