ABUJA — Former Abia governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political figure, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, has called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to remain hopeful and steadfast as the nation marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
In a goodwill message made available to newsmen on Thursday, Kalu described Democracy Day as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance, national unity, and collective progress despite prevailing economic and social challenges.
He praised the resilience, patriotism, and sacrifices of Nigerians who have continued to keep faith with the country’s democratic journey over the years.
According to him, the day serves as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made by heroes of democracy who fought for the rights, freedoms, and democratic values Nigerians enjoy today.
The former Abia Chief of Staff expressed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the ongoing reforms introduced by the administration, though difficult in the short term, are laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and national development.
“The journey of nation building requires patience, sacrifice, and collective commitment. While challenges remain, there is every reason for Nigerians to remain hopeful. The steps being taken today are aimed at creating a stronger economy, expanding opportunities for young people, and securing a better future for all citizens,” he said.
Kalu noted that efforts in infrastructure development, economic restructuring, investment attraction, and institutional reforms are gradually positioning Nigeria for greater stability and competitiveness in the global economy.
He also applauded Nigerians in the diaspora for their contributions to national development through investments, remittances, innovation, and their positive representation of the country abroad.
Kalu described Nigerians living overseas as worthy ambassadors whose achievements continue to project the nation’s resilience, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit on the global stage.
Calling for unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens, he stressed that sustainable national progress can only be achieved when leaders and citizens work together in pursuit of shared goals and democratic ideals.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our faith in Nigeria, strengthen our commitment to democratic values, and continue supporting efforts aimed at building a nation that future generations will be proud to inherit. Together, we can achieve the Nigeria of our dreams,” he added.
Kalu further wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Democracy Day celebration while praying for lasting peace, progress, and prosperity across the country.
