Media personality Daddy Freeze has reacted to the controversy surrounding his choice of outfit to the late actor Alex Ekubo’s service of songs, saying he wore black because he viewed the occasion strictly as a mourning event.
He made the clarification during an Instagram Live session on Sunday, amid backlash over his decision to appear in black attire at the event.
Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer, was honoured with a Service of Songs on June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Centre in Lagos.
The invitation specified a white dress code, which many attendees followed as a symbol of purity and celebration of life.
Daddy Freeze and his wife, however, arrived in black, sparking widespread criticism on social media.
