Tension has erupted within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State as governorship and other aspirants have rejected a purported list of candidates allegedly released by the state leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a joint position after a meeting in Enugu, over 30 aspirants dismissed the list said to be linked to the Okwesilieze Nwodo-led leadership, describing it as illegitimate and not reflecting the will of party members.

The aspirants passed a vote of no confidence on some party leaders, accusing them of anti-party activities, hijacking party structures, and imposing candidates allegedly incapable of winning elections.

They further claimed that no valid primary election, whether direct or consensus was conducted in line with party guidelines and the Electoral Act, insisting that a small group sidelined stakeholders and grassroots members in the decision-making process.

The group called on the national leadership of the party to urgently intervene by setting up an independent committee to oversee fresh, transparent primaries and restore confidence among members.

They maintained that only a credible and inclusive process would produce candidates capable of delivering victory for the party in 2027.
