Fresh cracks have emerged within the Abia State chapter of the APC as a founding member of the party, Mezie Chiekwe Esiaga, warned that unresolved disputes arising from the party’s governorship primary could jeopardize its chances in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on the party’s prospects, Esiaga alleged that the emergence of Eric Opah as the APC governorship candidate lacked credibility and was imposed by the party’s state leadership. He claimed that former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh, was the rightful winner of the primary election.

According to him, many party members may refuse to support the APC in 2027 if the dispute is not resolved, warning that the party risks a major electoral setback unless the ticket is returned to Ikoh.

However, the APC’s state Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, dismissed the allegations, insisting that candidates emerge through legitimate party primaries and not through public accusations or propaganda.

Aguoru urged party members to await the official release of candidates by the APC National Working Committee and rejected claims that the party was heading for defeat. He also denied allegations that Opah was a recent entrant into the party before securing the governorship ticket.

The development highlights growing tensions within the Abia APC as the party works to consolidate its position ahead of the crucial 2027 governorship election.
