The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that more than 2.3 million children across 25 states have enrolled in the Nigeria Learning Passport Programme since its nationwide rollout in 2022.

Speaking at the launch of the programme in Owerri, Imo State, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office, Enugu, Mrs. Juliet Chiluwe, said the digital learning platform is helping to expand access to quality education, particularly for children in underserved communities.

She noted that the initiative, developed through a partnership involving UNICEF, Microsoft, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the Global Partnership for Education, allows students to access learning materials both online and offline.

Chiluwe reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to supporting Imo State in building an inclusive and sustainable digital learning ecosystem while advocating greater investment in connectivity, digital devices, teacher training, and accountability systems.

Representing Governor Hope Uzodimma at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. B.O.T. Ikegwoha, reiterated the state government’s commitment to quality education and commended UNICEF for advancing digital learning opportunities for Nigerian children.

Education stakeholders described the Nigeria Learning Passport as a transformative tool that provides curriculum-based learning resources from primary to secondary school levels, ensuring that learning remains accessible regardless of location or circumstance.
