The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has reaffirmed that the state’s local government elections will hold on August 29 as scheduled, assuring residents of a free, fair, and credible process.
The Commission’s Commissioner for Information and Publicity, Chief Anthony Nnalue Chinedu, gave the assurance while speaking with journalists at the ANSIEC headquarters in Awka.
He said the commission is making deliberate efforts to ensure due process and avoid lapses during the elections, noting that preparations are in top gear with staff deployed across various assignments.
According to him, about 5,000 ad-hoc staff will be engaged for the conduct of the election across all local government areas, wards, and communities in the state.
Nnalue also observed low campaign activities by political parties despite the lifting of the campaign ban, suggesting that economic challenges may be affecting mobilisation efforts.
He, however, assured that funding has not been a major constraint and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting the commission’s preparations.
The Commissioner urged eligible voters to come out en masse on election day, stressing that voter apathy remains a major challenge to credible electoral participation.
He reaffirmed ANSIEC’s commitment to delivering a transparent and credible election and encouraged citizens to actively participate in choosing their local government leaders.
