An Anambra-based lawyer, Chinedu Nwankwo, has appealed to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to urgently rehabilitate the state’s Magistrate and Customary Courts, describing their condition as unfit for effective justice delivery.
In an open letter, Nwankwo acknowledged the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, security, education and urban renewal but expressed concern that the judiciary has not received similar attention.
He lamented that many court facilities suffer from leaking roofs, collapsing ceilings, poor ventilation, lack of electricity, inadequate furniture, damaged offices and poor access roads, while valuable judicial records are exposed to damage due to poor storage conditions.

The lawyer argued that the deteriorating state of the courts undermines the administration of justice and creates an unfavourable environment for judges, lawyers and litigants.
He urged the state government to prioritise the rehabilitation of court infrastructure, noting that improved facilities would enhance judicial efficiency, protect critical records and restore public confidence in the justice system.
