The Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA) has revealed that more than 137,000 residents have benefited from its health insurance programmes, highlighting the growing impact of healthcare reforms under Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration.

The agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Divine Igwe, made the disclosure during a rally held in Abakaliki to endorse Governor Nwifuru for a second term in office.

According to Igwe, beneficiaries of the scheme include patients who received treatment for cataracts, glaucoma and other medical conditions through various health interventions supported by the agency.

He commended Governor Nwifuru for his commitment to improving healthcare delivery, noting that the administration’s investments in the sector have significantly enhanced access to quality medical services for vulnerable residents.

Igwe also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving its Vision 2030 targets and pledged to expand healthcare coverage across the state.

In separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Lawrence Ezeogo, and Chairman of the EBSHIA Board, Ogechi Ogbaga, praised the governor’s unwavering support for the health sector, describing the agency’s achievements as life-saving and transformative.

Responding, Governor Nwifuru expressed satisfaction with the agency’s performance and accepted the endorsement, assuring residents that his administration would continue to strengthen and expand the health insurance scheme to reach more people across Ebonyi State.
