The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a young man in Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, Ikeduru Local Government Area, following the circulation of a viral video showing police personnel reportedly molesting the victim.
Police authorities confirmed that six officers linked to the incident have been identified and taken into custody. The officers include Inspectors Ugochukwu Ibe and Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeants Ugoezuhu Austin, and Corporals Michael Obi, Ebuka Onwuegbu, and Amos Sunny.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct. Disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the police condemned the officers’ actions, describing them as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards of the Force.
The command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on police brutality, misconduct, and human rights violations, assuring the public that the investigation will be conducted transparently and that the outcome will be made public upon completion.
