A tragic incident has rocked Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, following the death of a young woman, identified simply as Eno, who was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle suspected to be part of a convoy on the university campus.

The victim, believed to be in her early twenties, was reportedly struck along Road A within the institution on Tuesday evening and sustained severe head injuries. Witnesses said she died at the scene, while some vehicles in the convoy allegedly fled immediately after the incident.

The development triggered a swift response from university security personnel and the Nigeria Police Force, who sealed all exit points on campus and launched an investigation.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the fatal accident. The suspects, identified as Onunaka K. and Daniel Ikechi, both students of the university, were apprehended by operatives of the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters. The deceased’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in Anambra State, a joint security operation involving the Police Command and the State Homeland Security Network (Agunechemba) has resulted in the neutralisation of four suspected members of an armed gang operating within the Old Aguata Union (OAU) axis.

According to police authorities, the suspects, who allegedly disguised themselves in police and military uniforms to carry out attacks, engaged security operatives in a gun battle during an intelligence-led operation.

Security forces recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including a General Purpose Machine Gun, AK-47 rifles, live ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), police camouflage uniforms, communication devices and other incriminating items.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of heavily armed suspects linked to violent criminal activities in the area. He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend gang members who escaped with gunshot wounds.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at protecting lives and maintaining security across Anambra State.
