The Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Nonso Chukwuma Ebonwu, has inspected flood-affected areas at Ogbaru Main Market and Ochanja Market in Onitsha following heavy rainfall that disrupted business activities.

During the assessment, the Commissioner met with traders and market leaders who expressed concern over the destruction of goods, damaged infrastructure, and recurring flooding, calling for urgent government intervention.

Ebonwu assured the traders of the state government’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and businesses through improved drainage systems, stronger flood-control measures, and sustainable environmental management.

He stated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration remains focused on creating a safe and conducive environment for commerce, adding that findings from the inspection would be forwarded to relevant agencies for immediate action.

The Commissioner also urged traders to support government efforts by maintaining proper waste disposal practices and avoiding activities that block drainage channels.

Market leaders commended the government’s prompt response and expressed optimism that the inspection would lead to lasting solutions to flooding in the state’s major commercial centres.
