The Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, has commenced the screening of 38 first-class graduates for automatic employment as Graduate Assistants, fulfilling a promise made by Governor Alex Otti during the university’s 30th–32nd combined convocation ceremonies.
The exercise targets graduates who have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), while those still serving or yet to begin the programme will be screened after completing their service.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Roseline Ndimele, praises the graduates for their outstanding academic performance, reaffirming the university’s commitment to rewarding excellence.
Registrar Dr. Acho Elendu said the screening follows the governor’s directive and urged candidates to comply with all screening requirements.
Governor Otti had also approved postgraduate scholarships for all first-class graduates across the three convocation sets up to doctoral level in any public university in Nigeria, subject to accepting the teaching appointments.
The university said successful candidates will receive their employment letters after the screening concludes.
