The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, has criticized the immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, over her political face-off with the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Ogah.
Azubuike’s reaction follows the legal dispute between the two politicians, which recently resulted in Ogah’s temporary detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre on the strength of an Abuja High Court order.
Speaking on the development, the LP chairman acknowledged Onyejeocha’s constitutional right to seek elective office but questioned her desire to return to the House of Representatives after serving the constituency for 16 consecutive years from 2007 to 2023.
He argued that Hon. Ogah has recorded significant achievements in less than four years in office, insisting that his performance should be the basis for assessing his stewardship.
Azubuike described any attempt to replace the lawmaker as unnecessary, saying the constituency should retain a representative who is delivering results through constituency projects, empowerment programmes, and other developmental initiatives.
He maintained that comparing Onyejeocha’s 16-year tenure with Ogah’s less than four years in office clearly shows the latter’s impact on the constituency.
The Labour Party chairman reaffirmed the party’s support for Hon. Amobi Ogah, declaring that the party would continue to stand firmly behind the federal lawmaker amid the ongoing political and legal battle.
