Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has explained why he withdrew his support for a man identified as Agala, saying fresh findings during an independent fact-finding mission in Enugu State prompted him to change his position.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Gwamnishu said he travelled to Enugu with the intention of helping Agala seek justice after receiving reports that he had been assaulted. However, he said further investigations exposed him to information and accounts that allegedly linked the man to multiple criminal complaints.

According to the activist, his decision was guided by evidence gathered during the visit and discussions with individuals who claimed to have been victims of the suspect.

Gwamnishu maintained that he could not ignore the information or present a narrative he no longer believed was supported by the facts.

He stressed that while every individual deserves fair treatment, allegations backed by credible evidence should be thoroughly investigated by law enforcement agencies in accordance with the law.

The activist expressed confidence that the Nigeria Police would handle the matter professionally and allow the legal process to determine the outcome of the case.

He also suggested that, beyond any ongoing investigations, the suspect may require rehabilitation and professional intervention if behavioural issues are established.

Reaffirming his commitment to justice, Gwamnishu said he would not promote any narrative solely to attract public sympathy or social media attention, insisting that truth and accountability must remain paramount.

He further advised members of the public seeking clarification on previous reports involving the suspect to obtain verified information through the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

The development has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for due process, while others continue to demand transparency and accountability as police investigations continue.
