Comrade IKC Onuorah has emerged as the new Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, following his victory at the Council’s 2026 Unity Congress held in Awka.

Onuorah secured 75 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Comrade Nonso Nwebili, who polled 63 votes in the keenly contested election, with 140 accredited delegates participating in the congress.

The congress also produced a new executive council, with Comrade Thankgod Nwafor elected as Deputy Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Ejeri as Vice Chairman (South), Comrade Menkiti Oliseli as Vice Chairman (North), Comrade Akuwenze Chukwunonso as Vice Chairman (Central), Comrade Chimaobi Kingsley Egwu as Secretary and Comrade Chinonso Onyeanusi as Public Relations Officer, alongside other executive members.

Speaking after the election, the outgoing State Chairman, Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi, described the congress as a significant milestone for the council, commending delegates for conducting what he described as a peaceful, free, fair and credible electoral process.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, past leaders and other stakeholders for their support, while urging the newly elected executives to promote unity and deliver on the expectations of Anambra youths.

Representing the Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Youth Development, Dr. Augustine Ike, a representative commended the outgoing leadership for strengthening the council and encouraged delegates to uphold integrity and credibility in youth leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Onuorah thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to lead an inclusive administration focused on youth empowerment, value reorientation and strategic partnerships.

He also promised to operate an open and transparent administration, extend a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to advance the interests and aspirations of young people across Anambra State.
