Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly detained former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Wednesday before handing him over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for investigation.
According to security sources, Nnaji was intercepted in the early hours of the day while preparing to board a private jet bound for Abuja.
The sources alleged that the DSS acted on a request from the ICPC, which is said to be investigating the former minister over allegations linked to his tenure at the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
A source familiar with the matter further claimed that the anti-corruption agency had previously invited Nnaji on several occasions following petitions alleging irregularities during his time in office, but that he failed to honour the invitations, prompting the request for DSS intervention.
Uche Nnaji resigned as Minister of Science and Technology in October last year, a move that drew considerable political attention.
Beyond his role in the Federal Executive Council, Nnaji is an influential political figure in Enugu State and is reported to be seeking the governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election, making him one of the notable figures in the state’s evolving political landscape.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Department of State Services nor the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had issued an official statement confirming the arrest or providing details of the investigation.
