No fewer than 4,000 members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, in a move expected to reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among the defectors are senior officials of the NDC, including the party’s Deputy Chairman, Okechukwu Idenyi, Secretary, Solomon Adum, and several other party executives.

The defectors were officially received at a political rally held in Isu Community, Onicha Local Government Area, by the Ebonyi State PDP Chairman, Chukwuma Igwe, alongside party leaders and stakeholders.

Welcoming the new members, Igwe described the mass defection as a significant boost to the PDP’s growing presence in the state, expressing confidence that the experience and grassroots support of the defectors would strengthen the party ahead of the next general election.

He assured the new entrants of equal opportunities within the party and urged them to work collaboratively with existing members to build a formidable political structure capable of offering voters a credible alternative in 2027.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Solomon Adum said the decision to join the PDP followed extensive consultations with supporters and was driven by confidence in the party’s vision for democratic governance, unity and sustainable development.

He pledged the commitment of the defectors to expanding the PDP’s grassroots support while promoting peace, internal democracy and issue-based politics across the state.

Also addressing the gathering, the PDP candidate for the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Felix Igboke, described the PDP as “a moving train” and urged party members to remain united and committed to achieving victory in the 2027 elections.

He encouraged the new members to work diligently for the party’s success, expressing optimism that collective efforts would strengthen the PDP’s chances at the polls.
