A South-East chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Maxwell Igbokwe, has urged the party’s leadership to resolve all outstanding primary election disputes and release pending results before the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for candidate submissions.

Speaking in Abuja, Igbokwe warned that delays in announcing primary results and any attempt to impose candidates could undermine internal democracy, weaken party unity and erode public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He called on the party to strictly adhere to its constitution by submitting only the names of duly elected candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Igbokwe also expressed concern over the delay in releasing the results of some primary elections conducted more than two months ago, particularly the House of Representatives primary for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory, alleging attempts to manipulate the nomination process.
