The Anambra State Government has given holders of old Certificates of Occupancy, C of Os, until December 31, 2026, to recertify their documents and have their records captured in the Anambra State Geographic Information System, ANAMGIS.
The directive was contained in a public notice issued by the Anambra State Ministry of Lands and signed by its Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Nkeiru Mokwe.
The ministry said the old land administration system will be shut down indefinitely after the deadline.
According to the notice, holders of old C of Os who fail to recertify and integrate their records into the ANAMGIS database will no longer be able to process certain land transactions through the Ministry of Lands.
The affected transactions include mortgages, Deeds of Assignment, Certified True Copies, registration of Powers of Attorney and other related land transactions requiring processing by the ministry.
The ministry urged titleholders who have not commenced the recertification process to submit their applications without delay and complete the exercise before the December 31 deadline.
It explained that the recertification exercise is aimed at updating existing land records and integrating them into the state’s digital land administration system.
The notice, however, does not state that an old Certificate of Occupancy will automatically become invalid after December 31.
Rather, the restriction relates to access to specified land transactions through the Ministry of Lands under the old system.
The government has therefore advised affected landowners to complete the recertification and ANAMGIS capture process ahead of the deadline to avoid difficulties accessing land administration services.
