Residents of Urukpa Ezimo Community in Udenu Local Government Area have raised concerns over the absence of potable water, saying they have been forced to rely on a polluted stream shared with cattle for their daily water needs.

The community, which is the hometown of Enugu State Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, alleged that repeated government promises to provide clean water have remained unfulfilled, leaving residents exposed to serious health risks.

According to community members, erosion, agricultural runoff and animal waste have contaminated the stream, making it unsafe for consumption. They also claimed that the only existing borehole in the area is inaccessible to the public.

The residents further lamented poor infrastructure, including inadequate road access and limited government interventions, urging the Enugu State Government to prioritise the provision of sustainable potable water and other basic amenities.

They warned that continued dependence on the contaminated water source could increase the risk of waterborne diseases, especially among children and other vulnerable residents.
