The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has called on headteachers across the state to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of transforming Anambra into a leading centre of educational excellence in Nigeria and beyond.

Dr. Ogugua made the appeal during a familiarisation meeting with headteachers and key stakeholders in the basic education sector held at the headquarters of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in Awka.

The meeting focused on strategies for strengthening the delivery of quality basic education in line with the state government’s education reform agenda.

Addressing participants, the Commissioner described headteachers as critical stakeholders in the implementation of government policies at the grassroots level, stressing that their commitment is essential to achieving the administration’s goal of making Anambra’s education system globally competitive.

He commended the headteachers for their dedication and the consistent academic achievements of Anambra pupils, urging them to sustain their efforts in delivering quality education across the state.

In her remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting the state’s education reforms and ensuring that basic education meets global standards.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ifeoma Agbaizu, praised the headteachers for their professionalism, dedication and integrity, describing them as vital partners in the development of the education sector.

During the interactive session, some of the headteachers highlighted challenges affecting schools, including the need for grants to public and mission schools, the provision of computers and improved internet connectivity to enhance digital learning.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to work together in advancing quality education and improving learning outcomes across Anambra State.
