The Anambra State Government has assured residents of Umusiome, Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Government Area, that the Government Technical College Road will soon be reconstructed as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure across the state.
The assurance was given by the State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Okey Ezeobi, during an inspection of the road alongside the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Clems Aguiyi.
Addressing residents, members of the Umusiome Central Landlords Association, and the management and staff of Government Technical College, Umusiome, Engineer Ezeobi said Governor Chukwuma Soludo remains committed to improving the welfare of Ndi Anambra through sustained investment in infrastructure and human capital development.
He described the condition of the road as unfortunate and assured residents that the remaining section of the project would receive government attention, noting that earlier phases had already been completed.
The Commissioner also appealed to business owners and traders in Nkpor and surrounding communities to fulfil their tax obligations, stressing that increased revenue generation would enable the government to execute more developmental projects across the state.
Engineer Ezeobi further assured the management of Government Technical College that the state government would address the severe gully erosion threatening the school environment to ensure a safe and conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Clems Aguiyi, urged residents to adopt responsible environmental practices by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse and unauthorized developments that obstruct natural waterways.
According to him, blocked drainage channels and poor waste disposal remain major contributors to flooding and erosion in many communities.
In separate remarks, the President-General of Nkpor, Chief Godwin Nnamdi, and the Chairman of the Umusiome Central Landlords Association, Chief Dan Alaneme, commended Governor Soludo for his developmental efforts and appealed for the speedy reconstruction of the road, citing the hardship faced daily by residents, motorists, teachers and students.
The commissioners also inspected the gully erosion site within the Government Technical College, where school authorities and students appealed to the state government for urgent intervention to protect lives and infrastructure.
