Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Professor INS Dozie, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving students’ welfare following an unscheduled inspection of the university’s hostels.
The familiarisation tour, which took the Vice-Chancellor to several students’ residential facilities, was met with excitement as students welcomed the visit and applauded his direct engagement with their living conditions.
Speaking during the inspection, Professor Dozie said the visit was aimed at obtaining a firsthand assessment of the condition of the hostels rather than relying solely on official reports.
He noted that the inspection would enable the university management to identify critical areas requiring intervention and make informed decisions on improving students’ accommodation.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits while observing the rules and regulations guiding hostel administration, stressing that discipline and responsible conduct are essential to maintaining a peaceful learning environment.
Professor Dozie assured the students that their welfare remains a top priority, adding that the university would adopt a phased and sustainable approach to upgrading hostel facilities based on available resources.
He emphasized that while immediate solutions may not be possible in every case, the university is committed to implementing long-term improvements that will enhance students’ living conditions.
Reiterating the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, the Vice-Chancellor urged students to remain dedicated to their studies, assuring them that the university would continue to create an environment that supports learning, personal development and future success.
