Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved a grand reception for two outstanding students from the state following their remarkable performance at the International STEM Olympiad held in Rome, Italy.
The students, Onyedikachi Egejurum, 11, and Don Anele Munachisom, won gold medals in Mathematics and Science respectively, emerging as world champions in their categories.
Onyedikachi was named the world’s best in Mathematics in the primary school category, while Don Anele clinched the gold medal in Science in the secondary school category.
The duo were among three Nigerian students who secured gold medals at the prestigious global competition after earning qualification through the South-East regional edition of the Olympiad. Their participation was sponsored by education advocate and Educare CEO, Alex Onyia.
In a congratulatory message, Governor Uzodimma described the students’ achievements as a proud moment for Imo State and Nigeria, noting that their success reflects the positive impact of the state’s sustained investment in education.
The governor said his administration remains committed to improving education at all levels through strategic investments in infrastructure, teaching and learning.
He also commended individuals and organisations that identified, mentored and sponsored the students to the international competition, describing them as valuable partners in the advancement of education in the state.
As part of efforts to encourage academic excellence and inspire other young talents, Governor Uzodimma announced that the state government would host a grand reception in honour of the students.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and creating more opportunities for students to excel on both national and international stages.
