French referee François Letexier will reportedly take no further part in officiating matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing his involvement in the tournament to an end.
Letexier came under intense scrutiny following his handling of Argentina’s controversial 3-2 victory over Egypt in the Round of 16. The Egyptian Football Association subsequently filed a formal complaint with FIFA, raising concerns over several refereeing decisions during the match.
However, there is currently no verified official confirmation that Letexier has been suspended or expelled from the tournament as punishment. Reports indicate that FIFA’s refereeing committee continues to evaluate and appoint officials on a match-by-match basis.
Letexier’s absence from the remaining fixtures nevertheless means the French official will not take charge of another match at the 2026 World Cup.
