The Nigerian Navy has handed over a 44-year-old man to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking in Anambra State.

The suspect, Mr. Chukwu Ebuka Obas, an indigene of Orsumoghu in Ihiala Local Government Area, was arrested by personnel of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha, during a stop-and-search operation at Uga Junction in Ogbaru Local Government Area on July 15, 2026.

Commanding Officer of the Naval Outpost, Commander Kabir Yusuf, formally handed the suspect over to the NDLEA Onitsha Area Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

According to the Navy, items recovered from the suspect included 30 packs of expired Mamagra Viagra, 100 packs of FIKA Viagra, herbal roots, and a one-litre bottle containing a liquid substance suspected to be an illicit drug.

Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspect purchased the items from Diamond Line in Ogbogwu Market, Onitsha, and was allegedly transporting them to Orsumoghu in Ihiala Local Government Area for distribution.

The Navy further alleged that the destination community has been identified by security agencies as an area with the presence of criminal elements, adding that the suspect may provide useful information to help uncover the network behind the suspected illicit drug trade.

The NDLEA has commenced further investigation into the matter.
