
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, has encouraged commanders of formations and units under the Division to embark on meaningful projects that improve personnel welfare and strengthen operational effectiveness.
Major General Emekah gave the advice while commissioning a renovated accommodation block and a dual purpose photo stand with a notice board at Headquarters 29 Battalion, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State. He noted that such initiatives are lasting contributions that leave positive footprints within military formations.
According to the GOC, ensuring that troops and their families have safe, comfortable and suitable accommodation remains one of the priorities of his administration. He explained that quality living conditions boost the morale, welfare and combat readiness of personnel, enabling them to carry out their constitutional duties with greater dedication and professionalism.
He praised the Commanding Officer of 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo, for executing the projects and urged officers and soldiers who will use the facilities to take proper care of them so they continue to serve their purpose for many years.
Speaking during the inauguration of the photo stand and notice board, Major General Emekah described the facility as more than just an aesthetic addition to the Battalion Headquarters. He said it is an important regimental and communication asset that preserves the unit’s history, strengthens esprit de corps and reinforces its identity.
The GOC further urged commanders to continue pursuing development initiatives regardless of their scale, stressing that every worthwhile project contributes to the progress and growth of the Nigerian Army.
In his welcome address, the Commanding Officer, 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo, expressed gratitude to the GOC for his outstanding leadership and consistent support.
He revealed that upon assuming command, Major General Emekah directed him to sustain the developmental achievements of his predecessor, a mandate that motivated him to undertake projects considered worthy of commissioning.
Lieutenant Colonel Ochigbo reaffirmed the Battalion’s commitment to advancing the Chief of Army Staff’s Soldier First Culture, while sustaining programmes and initiatives aimed at improving personnel welfare and enhancing operational capability.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior military officers, commanders of formations and units, officers and soldiers of the Division, alongside other invited guests. Activities included the official unveiling of the projects, inspection of the newly commissioned facilities and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
