The Anambra State Government has warned property owners affected by ongoing road expansion projects not to rebuild within the approved road corridor, stressing that any structure erected in violation of the state’s building regulations will be demolished.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arch. Okey Ezeobi, issued the warning during an inspection of the ongoing Oko–Ekwulobia Dual Carriageway Project.
He said all reconstructed buildings must maintain the mandatory three-metre setback from drainage channels, explaining that the requirement is part of the road design to accommodate pedestrian walkways, drainage systems and other public infrastructure.
According to the commissioner, any building constructed within the approved setback or road corridor will be removed through government enforcement.
Ezeobi urged affected property owners, developers and business operators to obtain the necessary approvals and strictly comply with the state’s physical planning regulations before commencing reconstruction to avoid unnecessary losses.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Soludo administration to delivering durable road infrastructure across the state and appealed to residents to cooperate with the government to ensure the successful completion of ongoing road projects.
