Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has entered the history books by becoming the oldest manager to win the FIFA World Cup after leading La Roja to tournament glory.
According to a post obtained from FIFA’s website on Wednesday, De la Fuente, 65, surpassed Vicente del Bosque’s previous record, set when the former Spain coach guided the national team to their first World Cup title in 2010.
Del Bosque was 59 years old when Spain defeated the Netherlands in the 2010 final in South Africa.
De la Fuente’s triumph has now placed him above his predecessor as the oldest coach to lift football’s most prestigious trophy.
The achievement marks another milestone in De la Fuente’s managerial career, having previously led Spain’s youth teams before taking charge of the senior national side.
Under his leadership, Spain have continued their tradition of success on the international stage, with the World Cup victory adding to the country’s rich football history.
