FIFA President Gianni Infantino is reportedly exploring plans to open up a stake in the commercial business behind the FIFA World Cup to private investors, with a report claiming he has held discussions with investors linked to the Trump administration.
According to The Times, the proposal would involve selling a minority stake in a new commercial entity that would manage the business interests of the FIFA World Cup and other major tournaments.
The report further alleges that the arrangement could see Infantino receive tens of millions of euros if he takes on a future role within the new venture after leaving office as FIFA president.
It also claims that discussions have taken place with investment groups said to have close connections to members of the Trump administration, although no agreement has been announced.
