Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, a Catholic priest under the Catholic Diocese of Lokoja, was found dead on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, after being killed by unidentified assailants along Church Road in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
The cleric was reportedly attacked and sustained severe machete cuts to his head and multiple stab wounds and his lifeless body was found dumped by the roadside in Ajaokuta.
Fr. Oyetoro was a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area and served as the parish priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Egbe, Kogi State.
Following the ugly incident, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Oyiza Salihu, confirmed the incident. She stated that security operatives evacuated the body to the ASCL Hospital, where he was certified dead, and that an investigation is actively ongoing to track down the kill£rs.
The Catholic Diocese of Lokoja issued a statement confirming his passing. The diocese has asked the Christian faithful and laity to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and to seek comfort for his aged parents, siblings, and parishioners.
