Concerned residents of Ihiala Local Government Area have appealed to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to urgently rehabilitate Abbot Girls Secondary School, Ihiala, citing the deteriorating condition of the institution.
In an open appeal, the residents described the once-prestigious school as being in a state of neglect, with its dilapidated infrastructure posing safety concerns for students and creating an unconducive environment for teaching and learning.
They alleged that despite claims of improvements in the education sector across the state, no secondary school in Ihiala Local Government Area has undergone comprehensive reconstruction, adding that only a few primary schools benefitted from limited federal government intervention projects.
The residents expressed concern that female students are currently learning in unsafe conditions and urged both the state government and the Ihiala Local Government Chairman to intervene by renovating the school and restoring its learning facilities.
They stressed that investing in the rehabilitation of the school would not only improve the quality of education but also benefit generations of families within the community.
The appeal comes amid renewed calls by stakeholders for increased investment in educational infrastructure to provide safe, conducive and modern learning environments across Anambra State.
