The Abia State Police Command has debunked reports alleging that shaved human hair was recovered from a fetish pot belonging to an arrested barber, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The command clarified that the suspect, identified simply as Emeka, was arrested following a petition alleging threat to life. During a search of his residence, police recovered a native pot, carved images and other suspected fetish items, but no human hair was found.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect identified the carved images as representations of his ancestors, which he worships as part of his traditional religious beliefs.
She urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that human hair was discovered in the recovered pot, stressing that such claims were unfounded.
DSP Chinaka noted that investigations into the case are still ongoing and cautioned against the spread of misinformation, blaming some content creators and bloggers for circulating unverified reports to attract online attention.
The police spokesperson assured residents that the command remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation and urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources.
